Here it is ! Probably the EASIEST recipe you’ll find on my blog !! This is the FRENCH VERSION of a grilled-ham and cheese sandwich.
My version is easier and lighter than the authentic recipe (which uses Béchamel sauce instead of heavy cream like I did).
I love making it so much with some greens on the side!! It’s the perfect lazy but delicious meal.
CHEESE PULL TO THE MAX BABY
Recipe
If you’re not a French speaker, you might be wondering what Croque Monsieur means. Croque means “Bite!” and Monsieur, “mister”. Literally ‘Bite into mister” or “Have a bite of mister”. If you wanna know more about the meaning, go ask Google :)
Jkkkk!!
Back in the early 1900’s, a man at a restaurant asked what was inside his sandwich, to which the cook replied “Mister’s meat!”. It doesn’t make much sense but that’s exactly what this is about: a dumb question leads to a dumb answer.
So, let’s eat some mister today!
Ingredients
-2 slices of sandwich bread
-1 or 2 slices of good-quality ham (if you can)
-Either shredded emmental cheese or sliced Comté cheese (like I did)
-A dollop of fresh heavy cream or liquid cream (it doesn’t matter)
-Some butter to panfry !!
Steps
Make the sandwich
Pour or spread some heavy cream on one of your bread slices.
Add on the slice of ham
Finish up with some emmental cheese or comté. Be GENEROUS !!!
2. Time to pan-fry it !
Add some butter to a pan. Turn on the heat to medium-low. Once the butter’s melting, add the sandwich.
Do the same thing on each side. Your slices should be golden brown (I love them burnt tbh but don’t be like me).
Enjoy when it’s warm!! Incredible cheese pull and some hints of saltiness will hit your tongue (thanks to the salted butter we used to cook them!)
Food is love.
